biblical sobriety.. taking your thoughts captive to make sure they are God approved.. has nothing to do with drugs or alcohol.. Jesus drank wine and they called him a drunkard.. but he stayed sober minded.. but sober minded in the bible has nothing to do with alcohol.. in modern times, people mean drugs and alcohol when they speak of sobriety.. but that is not what the bible means.
We are told to do as Jesus did.. and stay sober minded.. and Jesus drank wine.. if sober minded meant you can’t drink alcohol than we wouldn’t be able to do as Jesus did.. the bible also says to take every thought captive.. and that is the only way to interpret “stay sober minded” that makes sense.
often when saying this.. someone will say.. “but you shouldn’t defile the temple and your body is the temple.. ” but nothing a man puts in his body can defile him, per Jesus.. so that’s not valid.
