Philippians 3:13 New Living Translation
“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Our future matters more than our past. God’s grace is greater than our sin. What you or I may have done in the past may have not been good. But God is good. And He will forgive us. He is ready to write a new chapter in your life. Be in agreement with Paul, who writes “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.” (Philippians 3:13, NLT)

You see, there is a reason the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror. Your future matters more than your past.

God through His Son Jesus wants to take care of your past. Your past is past. Let Him forgive you of the guilt of your past.

I think it’s human tendency to view life through the rear view mirror: the mulling over the past… a wrong job choice, a lost chance at love, a hundred missed opportunities, things you should or shouldn’t have said or done, etc. It can be paralyzing. The Lord wants us to let go of the skeletons of the past that have kept us in bondage and look ahead to the future that He gives us.

The enemy wants us stuck: stuck in our past, stuck in our sin, stuck in the feelings of guilt, shame, embarrassment. He knows that if we are stuck and wrapped up in our past, we can’t move forward with the Lord and do the work the Lord wants us to do. If we allow the enemy to keep a chain around our necks, each link representing sin, we will never move forward to advance the Kingdom of God. Guilt sucks the life out of our souls. Grace restores it. Jesus restored our lives when He hung on the cross and paid the debt of our sins. He did that so we could have a future….a future to look forward to. Just let Him have your past. Ask Him to forgive you and He will. Then you can go on with Him, moving forward into your future. He wants us to change thinking and focus from our past to His promise!
