THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS IS FOOLISHNESS TO THOSE WHO ARE ABOUT TO PERISH, Culled From Dipo Toby Alakija Illustrative Sermon Book Titled The Map of Eternal Destinations
One preacher was leaving the hall where he just finished preaching. As he was outside, holding his Bible, one man approached him and said, “I admire your conviction and your sincerity when you preached in the hall but I have to tell you that the whole gospel is pure nonsense.”
The preacher opened his Bible and said, “you’re quiet right, you know. The word of God says exactly what you just said now.”
“You’re joking, right? The Bible can’t possibly say that the gospel is nonsense,” the man replied. The preacher opened to 1 Corinthians 1:18 and read the place to him, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are saved it is the power of God.”
The preacher closed his Bible and began to leave after establishing his point. The man recognized it at once that the word of God sounded foolish to him because he was about to perish. He got hold of the preacher and requested him to tell him more. He became born again that day and then, from there, the word of God became the power of God to him.
The Bible says further in 1 Corinthians 1:21, “For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.”
How does the word of God sounds to you, dear reader? Foolishness or power of God? It is not what you say alone that provides the answer but what you do. If you believe the word of God, you will follow it. By not following it, you make it appear like foolishness to you. Believe it and follow the word of God because it is the power of God to those who are saved.
I pray that the word of God will be power of God to us instead of foolishness in Jesus name.
